I'm an encourager. When I realize that that's what I am, that's what I do, then I try to encourage people. Every step I take, I'm about encouraging.
Success is being able to wake up in the morning, being able to look in the mirror and say, I like who I see. I like what I'm doing in my community. I like what I'm doing in my own family. I like the effort that I'm making in my place of employment. To me, success is an emotion, is a feeling. It's not necessarily a doing.
There was a progression in my life. There were events that helped shape me. The death of my father when I was 20 years old, that really impacted me. I often tell people that my father's death brought me new life. It made me think about life. It made me respect life. It made me realize that he died at 44 years old, and I was 20. Does that mean I only have 24 years left? So I started to take into account what time I had and made sure I maximized it.
I have this analogy that I think about all the time. And it's about aiming high. An archer trying to hit a mark 50 yards out, they have to aim higher than the mark is, because gravity is going to pull things down. So I started aiming higher. And, if you aim higher, you're more likely to hit the mark.
